A longer final fight scene was filmed for Avengers: Endgame

May 1, 2019 by Samuel Brace

A longer version of the final fight scene in Avengers: Endgame was actually filmed before being cut down for its theatrical release.

Much of the world has now had its chance to see Avengers: Endgame and if box office receipts are anything to go by, pretty much everyone is taking the opportunity to do so.

As one would expect, there is a pretty epic final fight between the heroes and Thanos towards the film’s end but it turns out that a longer version of these events was actually filmed before being cut.

Speaking to The New York Times, writers Christopher Markus and Stepehen McFeely revealed: “We wrote and shot an even much longer battle, with its own three-act structure.”

McFeely said: “It didn’t play well, but we had a scene in a trench where, for reasons, the battle got paused for about three minutes and now there’s 18 people all going, ‘What are we going to do?’ ‘I’m going to do this.’ ‘I’m going to do this.’ Just bouncing around this completely fake, fraudulent scene. When you have that many people, it invariably is, one line, one line, one line. And that’s not a natural conversation.”

Markus added: “It also required them to find enough shelter to have a conversation in the middle of the biggest battle. It wasn’t a polite World War I battle where you have a moment.”

From the sounds of it, they were right in cutting this scene down. What made it to the film was plenty exciting enough! Do you think this longer version should have made it to cinemas? Let us know in the comments below and on Twitter @flickeringmyth…
