Phil Lord and Chris Miller to oversee Marvel TV universe from Sony

May 4, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Following their work on last year’s Oscar-winning animated feature Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller have just signed a bumper five-year deal with Sony Pictures TV to oversee the development of a Marvel television universe.

According to THR, the nine-figure deal will see Lord and Miller creating live-action drama, comedy and animated projects featuring the Marvel characters under Sony’s control, which includes the likes of Spider-Man, Spider-Gwen, Venom, Black Cat, Silver Sable, Silk, and Morbius, the Living Vampire. They will also oversee projects from other writers, again focusing on Sony’s Marvel roster.

“We are so grateful to everyone at Sony Pictures Television for choosing to partner with us and expand our enduring relationship with the studio,” said Lord and Miller. “Together we aim to make groundbreaking work of the highest quality and integrity, and to place that work in convenient proximity to your eyeballs and earholes, wherever you may be.”

Along with these various new TV projects, Sony has a live-action Morbius movie in production to be followed by Venom 2, and is also working on a Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sequel and female-fronted spinoff Spider-Women.
