Richard E. Grant to play a former drag queen in Everybody’s Talking About Jamie

June 17, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Variety is reporting that Richard E. Grant (Can You Ever Forgive Me?) is set to portray a former drag queen in an upcoming feature film adaptation of the British stage musical Everybody’s Talking About Jamie.

According to the site, the film will tell the story of Jamie (Max Harwood), a 16-year-old who doesn’t quite fit in and has to overcome prejudice and bullying to step out of the darkness and into the spotlight.

Grant – who will next be seen on the big screen in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker – will portray Jamie’s mentor, while the cast also includes Sarah Lancashire (Happy Valley) as Jamie’s mother and Sharon Horgan (Catastrophe) as his teacher.

Everybody’s Talking About Jamie will reunite the creative team behind the stage production in director Jonathan Butterell, writer Tom MacRae, composer Dan Gillespie and choreographer Kate Prince. Filming will get underway this month, with Film4, Warp Films and New Regency producing.
