David Harbour is impressed with how Stranger Things season 3 stands out from past seasons

July 3, 2019 by Samuel Brace

David Harbour, one of the stars of Stranger Things, says that he is very impressed with how season 3 stands out and differs from season 1 and 2.

With any TV show that continues on for multiple seasons, the challenge of keeping the story fresh and not repeating things comes into play, with even more pressure applied on big series like Stranger Things.

Will Stranger Things season 3 be able to stand out from what has come before? According to David Harbour in an interview with ComicBook.com, this is exactly what it does:

“I didn’t think they could outdo themselves, and I didn’t have the highest of expectations going into shooting it, and it is the biggest … I guess the big question for me has always been like, OK, we killed the monster in Season One, and then we closed the gate in Season Two. Are you really just going to repeat that? Are you really just going to have another monster come into Hawkins? How are you going to do that, guys? And they managed to do it in such an inventive way, in such a beautiful way. And this season is just … The only words I can really think of are epic.”

“Especially when you get around episode eight, there are moments where you’re laughing and crying at the same time. Where I was yelling at the television screen, and I’m not that type of guy, but I think it really has outdone itself. And I would be very surprised if this wasn’t your favorite season, and I’d certainly be very surprised if you didn’t think that episode eight was the best thing we’ve ever shot, because I’m convinced that that episode is so, so unexpected, so beautiful, so big, so tight. Not a second of downtime, not a second where you’re waiting for anything. To me, it’s a masterpiece. Episode eight is a masterpiece.”

Well, there you have it! If you weren’t excited for new the season, perhaps Harbour has pumped you up a little after that glowing recommendation. We can see for ourselves when it arrives to Netflix this Thursday.

It’s 1985 in Hawkins, Indiana, and summer’s heating up. School’s out, there’s a brand new mall in town, and the Hawkins crew are on the cusp of adulthood. Romance blossoms and complicates the group’s dynamic, and they’ll have to figure out how to grow up without growing apart. Meanwhile, danger looms. When the town’s threatened by enemies old and new, Eleven and her friends are reminded that evil never ends; it evolves. Now they’ll have to band together to survive, and remember that friendship is always stronger than fear.

The third season of Stranger Things sees the return of cast members Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Charlie Heaton, Natalia Dyer, Joe Keery, Cara Buono, Dacre Montgomery, Sadie Sink and Priah Ferguson, while new additions include Francesca Reale, Maya Hawke, Cary Elwes and Jake Busey.
