Exclusive: Bruce Campbell shoots down Spider-Man 4 Mysterio rumour

July 21, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Fan favourite Spidey villain Mysterio finally made his big screen debut this month with Jake Gyllenhaal taking on the role of Quentin Beck in Marvel and Sony’s Spider-Man: Far From Home.

However, the Master of Illusion could have found himself battling Spider-Man over a decade ago, with Sam Raimi planning on utilising the villain in his abandoned Spider-Man 4 – and if a long-standing rumour is to be believed, he’d have been portrayed by Raimi’s pal and Evil Dead star Bruce Campbell.

During an interview at the San Diego Comic-Con, Flickering Myth’s Tai Freligh put the Mysterio question to Campbell, who blamed the rumour on the “world wide web of bullshit” and said he was never once told by Raimi that he’d be portraying the classic villain.

Check out Campbell’s response here, along with his humorous thoughts on Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio, and be sure to head on over to our YouTube channel for more Comic-Con interviews and videos.

Peter Parker returns in Spider-Man: Far From Home, the next chapter of the Spider-Man: Homecoming series! Our friendly neighborhood Super Hero decides to join his best friends Ned, MJ, and the rest of the gang on a European vacation. However, Peter’s plan to leave super heroics behind for a few weeks are quickly scrapped when he begrudgingly agrees to help Nick Fury uncover the mystery of several elemental creature attacks, creating havoc across the continent!

Spider-Man: Far From Home features the return of Tom Holland (Spider-Man), Marisa Tomei (Aunt May), Zendaya (Michelle), Jacob Batalon (Ned Leeds), Angourie Rice (Betty Brant), Tony Revolori (Flash Thompson), Martin Star (Mr. Harrington), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury) and Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill), with Jake Gyllenhaal (Nightcrawler) as Mysterio.
