Rumour: Hayley Atwell’s Agent Carter returning for final season of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

August 10, 2019 by Gary Collinson

After popping up for a cameo in this year’s Avengers: Endgame, FandomWire is reporting that Hayley Atwell is set to reprise her fan favourite role as Agent Peggy Carter in next year’s seventh and final season of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D..

Atwell previously made a guest appearances in the second season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., before headlining her own Agent Carter show on ABC for two seasons between 2015 and 2016. She is also set to feature in the Marvel Studios animated series What If…?, with an episode which will explore what would have happened had Peggy taken the Super Soldier Serum and became Captain America.

The season six finale saw the team travelling back in time in an effort to thwart an alien race called the Chronicoms from erasing S.H.I.E.L.D. in the past, Terminator-style. Given that Peggy is a founding member of the spy organisation, it would certainly make sense that we see her popping up, hopefully tying up any loose ends from Agent Carter in the process.

The final season of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is set to air on ABC in 2020.
