Charlie Hunnam to lead Apple’s Shantaram series

September 20, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Deadline is reporting that former Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam is returning to the small screen to lead the cast of the upcoming Apple TV+ adaptation of Gregory David Roberts’ bestselling novel Shantaram.

The series, which is being produced by Anonymous Content and Paramount Television, will see Hunnam as Lin, “a man on the run from an Australian prison looking to get lost in the teeming city of Bombay. Cut off from family and friends by distance and fate, he finds a new life in the slums, bars and underworld of India.”

Eric Warren Singer (American Hustle) has written the series, while Justin Kurzel (Assassin’s Creed) is attached to direct the first two episodes. Both will also executive produce the series alongside Dave Erickson (Fear the Walking Dead).

Filming on Shantaram is set to get underway in October, with the shoot taking in locations in both Australia and India.
