Iko Uwais to play the Hard Master in G.I. Joe spinoff Snake Eyes

September 7, 2019 by Gary Collinson

The Raid and Wu Assassins star Iko Uwais looks set to become the latest addition to the cast of Snake Eyes, with THR reporting that the actor is in talks to portray the Hard Master in the G.I. Joe spinoff film.

Should the deal close, Uwais will join Henry Golding (Crazy Rich Asians), who is taking on the role of the titular ninja commando, and Andrew Koji (Warrior), who is portraying Snake Eyes’ blood brother-turned-mortal enemy Storm Shadow.

Hard Master is the head of the Arashikage Clan and responsible for training both Snake Eyes and his nephew Tommy, a.k.a. Storm Shadow – the latter of whom is blamed for the Hard Master’s murder, leading to a rift between the two students that ultimately finds them on opposite sides of the war between G.I. Joe and Cobra.

The Hard Master previously appeared in 2009’s G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, where he was portrayed by Gerald Okamura.

Snake Eyes is being directed by Robert Schwentke (R.I.P.D.) from a script by Evan Spiliotopoulos (Beauty and the Beast), and is set for release on October 16th 2020.
