Solo: A Star Wars Story nearly included Lando Calrissian’s brother

September 4, 2019 by Samuel Brace

Co-writer of Solo: A Star Wars Story, Jonathan Kasdan, says that the film originally featured Lando Calrissian’s brother before he was cut out.

It’s always interesting to hear from the filmmakers behind movies about what could have been. This is especially true when it comes to Star Wars with so many characters and lore on the table.

Well, the latest nugget to come out is the reveal that Solo: A Star Wars Story very nearly included Lando’s brother. This tidbit was revealed by co-writer Jonathan Kasdan after a fan asked him on social media about a mysterious character that features in a UK sticker book:

“KORSO. The muscle in Beckett’s crew who died in battle shortly after they crash-landed on Mimban. Korso was in every draft of the script (including an early version where he was Lando’s big brother) and every cut of the movie ’til just before lock when he was removed to simplify.”

It’s certainly interesting to think about how different the film would have been had Korso been kept in the mix. Would you have liked to have met Lando’s brother in Solo? Let us know in the comments below or on Twitter @flickeringmyth…

A new adventure with the most beloved scoundrel in the galaxy. Through a series of daring escapades deep within a dark and dangerous criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his mighty future copilot Chewbacca and encounters the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian, in a journey that will set the course of one of the Star Wars saga’s most unlikely heroes.

Solo: A Star Wars Story stars Alden Ehrenreich (Hail, Caesar!) as Han Solo, Donald Glover (Atlanta) as Lando Calrissian, Woody Harrelson (War for the Planet of the Apes) as Tobias Beckett, Joonas Suotamo (Star Wars: The Last Jedi) as Chewbacca, Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag) as L3-37, Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) as Qi’ra, Thandie Newton (Westworld) as Val and Paul Bettany (Avengers: Infinity War) as Dryden Vos.
