Zoe Kravitz cast as Catwoman in The Batman

October 15, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Warner Bros. and DC Films have found their Catwoman, with Deadline revealing that Fantastic Beasts and X-Men: First Class actress Zoe Kravitz is set to portray Selina Kyle opposite Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne in The Batman.

The casting follows a report last week which stated that Kravitz had been director Matt Reeves’ first choice for the role, but was unavailable due to a scheduling conflict. Other names said to have been in contention included Lupita Nyong’o (Black Panther), Tessa Thompson (Thor: Ragnarok), Alexandra Shipp (X-Men: Dark Phoenix), Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Beauty and the Beast) and Logan Browning (Dear White People)

As it happens, this isn’t the first time that Kravitz will have portrayed the femme fatale, as she also lent her voice to the character in 2017’s The LEGO Batman Movie. She does however join a list of live-action Catwomen which includes Julie Newmar, Lee Meriwether, Eartha Kitt, Michelle Pfeiffer, Halle Berry, Anne Hathaway and Camren Bicondova.
