Denis Villeneuve’s Dune will be “shocking” and “very visceral”, according to Oscar Isaac

December 12, 2019 by Liam Waddington

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker star Oscar Isaac shared a few comments on his next project, director Denis Villeneuve’s Frank Herbert adaptation Dune, which is set to release a year from now in December 2020.

“It’s just a wholly, wholly different thing,” said Isaac when EW asked how the movie compares to previous filmed takes on the material. “I couldn’t imagine anyone more suited for the tone of the original Frank Herbert novels than Denis. There are some things that are — for lack of a better word — nightmarish about what you see… There’s just this kind of brutalist element to it. It’s shocking. It’s scary. It’s very visceral. And I know that definitely between Denis and myself and Chalamet and Rebecca Ferguson as the family unit, we really searched for the emotion of it. I’m beyond myself with excitement. I think it’s good to feel cool, unique, and special.”

Dune sees Timothee Chalamet (Call Me By Your Name) leading the cast as Paul Atreides alongside Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible – Fallout), Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: The Last Jedi), Dave Bautista (Avengers: Infinity War), Stellan Skarsgard (Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again), Charlotte Rampling (Red Sparrow), Zendaya (Spider-Man: Far From Home), Javier Bardem (Loving Pablo), Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Josh Brolin (Avengers: Endgame), Stephen Henderson (Fences), and Chang Chen (The Assassin).

A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, “Dune” tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence—a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential—only those who can conquer their fear will survive.
