First images of Natalie Dormer in Penny Dreadful: City of Angels

December 20, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Thanks to Entertainment Weekly, we’ve got a first look at Game of Thrones alum Natalie Dormer in the upcoming Penny Dreadful spinoff/spiritual successor City of Angels, where she portrays the shape-shifting demon character Magda.

Dormer describes her character in the series as a “delicious, multidimensional thrill,” an “agent of chaos” out to “sow the seeds of disorder”, adding that: “We can heighten the life and death and the violence by using a supernatural figure within the storytelling. She brings the sauce, basically, is what I’m telling you. She’s fundamentally a skeptic of humanity. She says in the first episode, ‘I give human beings a choice, but they choose time and time again to be seduced by the more baser, selfish roles.’”

Penny Dreadful: City of Angels takes place in Los Angeles in 1938 and follows Detective Tiago Vega (Daniel Zovatto) as he finds himself investigating a grisly murder which sets in motion a story that delves into the rich history of the city. Also featuring in the cast alongside Dormer and Zovatto are Nathan Lane, Rory Kinnear, Piper Perabo, Thomas Kretschman, Ethan Peck, Kerry Bishé, Johnathan Nieves, Jessica Garza, Adriana Barraza, Michael Gladis, Amy Madigan, Brent Spiner, Lorenza Izzo, Lin Shaye and Adam Rodriguez.
