His Dark Materials actress cast as Galadriel in Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings

December 20, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Variety is reporting that His Dark Materials actress Morfydd Clark has been cast in Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings series, where she will portray the character of Galadriel, the fairest of all Elves.

Lady Galadriel – who was potrayed by Cate Blanchett in Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies – is the first major character from J.R.R. Tolkien’s works to be announced for the TV series, which is set thousands of years prior to the movies during the Second Age of Middle-earth.

Clark becomes the latest addition to a growing cast that so far includes Markella Kavenagh (Picnic at Hanging Rock), Joseph Mawle (Game of Thrones), Ema Horvath (Like.Share.Follow.) and Maxim Baldry (Years and Years).

The Lord of the Rings has been developed by JD Payne and Patrick McKay (Star Trek Beyond) and has J.A. Bayona (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) attached to direct the first two episodes. The show already has a second season order, and filming is set to take place next year ahead of an expected premiere in 2021.
