Microsoft reveals the new Xbox Series X

December 14, 2019 by Andrew Newton

Microsoft has revealed the next-generation Xbox at The Game Awards 2019 with a new trailer that shows off the new Xbox Series X, previously known as Project Scarlett.  Scheduled to release in late 2020, the Xbox Series X features a rather blocky, yet futuristic and strangely attractive (not romantically) design.

The Xbox Series X won’t be without competition as the Playstation 5 will be released around the same time but going by the specs we can expect Playstation 5 to have a good fight ahead of it.  Unfortunately, due to the high specs of the Series X being pretty much a high end gaming PC, gamers could also be looking at a high price.

Specs wise, the Xbox Series X will be four times more powerful than the Xbox One X using a custom designed AMD processor.  Also, although Microsoft has said the next-gen console will be able to handle 60FPS at 4K resolution it will also have the potential to show 8K resolutions while running games at an astounding frame rate of 120FPS.

Windows Central’s sources have also hinted at 16GB of Ram which will allow developers to take gamers into much more detailed worlds and provide greater experiences.  Also, when it comes to game development it will come as no surprise that the latest title in the Halo series, Halo Infinite, will make its debut appearance on the Series X, but that’s not all, players will also be able to enjoy backwards compatibility.

Finally, the humble controller doesn’t look like it has had any changes made to it but Microsoft stated “Its size and shape have been refined to accommodate an even wider range of people, and it also features a new Share button to make capturing screenshots and game clips simple and an advanced d-pad derived from the Xbox Elite Series 2 Wireless Controller.”

Will you be getting the Xbox Series X next year? Let us know in the comments below.
