Nicholas Hoult joins Mission: Impossible 7 & 8 in villain role

January 9, 2020 by Ricky Church

Another new addition has been made to Christopher McQuarrie’s upcoming Mission: Impossible sequels as the writer/director has announced via his Instagram account Nicholas Hoult (X-Men: Dark Phoenix) is the latest actor to join the franchise in what The Hollywood Reporter says is the villain role in the seventh and eighth films.

McQuirrie asked Hoult through the Instagram post if he would like to “raise a little hell” to which the actor responded “Though why stop at a little?” This will mark only the second time in the Mission: Impossible franchise a villain has plagued Ethan Hunt for more than one film after Sean Harris’ Solomon Lane in Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation and Fallout, both of which McQuirrie wrote and directed.

Hoult joins franchise newcomers Hayley Atwell (Avengers: Endgame), Pom Klementieff (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2) and Shea Whigham (Boardwalk Empire) in the upcoming sequels, while returning cast members include Tom Cruise, Rebecca Ferguson, Simon Pegg and Ving Rhames as Ethan Hunt, Ilsa Faust, Benji Dunn and Luther Stickell respectively. McQuirrie intends to shoot Mission: Impossible 7 and 8 back-to-back.

Mission: Impossible 7 is scheduled to hit theatres on 23rd July 2021. Mission: Impossible 8 is slated for August 25th, 2022.
