Taika Waititi confirms ‘Baby Yoda’ does have a name, but we will have to wait “for Favreau to give that away”

January 6, 2020 by Liam Waddington

Actor and director Taika Waititi, who played IG-11 and directed the season one finale of The Mandalorian, has confirmed the adorable ‘Baby Yoda’ does indeed have an actual name.

Speaking with The New York Times at the Golden Globes, Waititi confirmed the Child does have a real name but we will have to wait “for Favreau to give that away.”

I also asked Taika about Baby Yoda, since he directed the MANDALORIAN finale. “He’s not named Baby Yoda!” Taika insisted. There is a name yet to be revealed, and Taika knows it but won’t hint. “I’ll wait for Favreau to give that away.”

It’s a possibility ‘Baby Yoda’s’ real name could be revealed during the second season of The Mandalorian which creator and showrunner Jon Favreau has confirmed that filming began during the end of last year and is set to arrive on Disney+ in the fall of 2020.

The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal (Narcos) in the title role as Din Djarin, a bounty hunter who finds himself targeted by the remnants of the Empire and his fellow bounty hunters after breaking a contract to protect ‘The Child’, a mysterious and force-sensitive young creature from the same species as Jedi Master Yoda.
