Disney CEO Bob Iger says the priority for Star Wars lies in television, teases The Mandalorian spin-offs

February 5, 2020 by Liam Waddington

During Walt Disney’s latest earnings call (via Collider), Disney CEO Bob Iger stated the foreseeable future of Star Wars will lie in television for the next few years and teased the possibility of spin-off’s for The Mandalorian.

“The priority in the next few years is television with The Mandalorian season 2 coming in October, and then more coming from The Mandalorian thereafter, including the possibility of infusing it with more characters and the possibility of taking those characters in their own direction in terms of series,” Iger said.

This approach by Disney makes sense with the recent release of their brand new streaming service, Disney+, and three Star Wars series currently planned including The Mandalorian season two which is currently filming, the Obi-Wan Kenobi series (despite the numerous creative problems), and the Cassian Andor series.

There is no current information regarding specific spin-off series for The Mandalorian, however, it sounds like we are going to see the possibility of Lucasfilm expanding the series into a “Mandalorian-verse” with already established characters or new characters yet to be revealed.

Would you like to see The Mandalorian receive multiple spin-off series? Do you think it’s a good idea for Lucasfilm to focus on developing the Star Wars universe through tTV? Let us know in the comments below or tweet us @flickeringmyth…

After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. The series depicts a lone bounty hunter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.

Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones) leads the cast of The Mandalorian, alongside the likes of Gina Carano (Deadpool), Carl Weathers (Rocky), Nick Nolte (Afflication), Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok) and Werner Herzog (Grizzly Man).
