Anya Taylor-Joy in talks for George Miller’s Mad Max: Furiosa spin-off

March 27, 2020 by Ricky Church

With the number of feature film and television productions that have gone on hold due to the current health crisis, studios are looking to the future when they can resume their on-hold productions and start making new ones.

One such project is George Miller’s long-awaited spin-off to 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road that will centre on Charlize Theron’s Furiosa. According to Variety, Anya Taylor-Joy (Split) is being considered for a role in the film.

Miller has been taking auditions via Skype and phone meetings to the spin-off which as included Taylor-Joy a part of those conversations. Depending on how the current situation unfolds, Miller is looking at starting production on the spin-off sometime next year.

Despite being set in the Mad Max franchise, the spin-off is said to only follow Theron’s Furiosa without Tom Hardy making an appearance as the title character.

However, more Mad Max films are also in the works as last year Miller reaffirmed he has plans for three different movies set in the Mad Max universe: “There are two stories, both involving Mad Max, and also a Furiosa story. We’re still solving, we’ve got to play out the Warners thing, it seems to be pretty clear that it’s going to happen.”

Taylor-Joy, meanwhile, will be seen next in the long-delayed X-Men spin-off The New Mutants, which was set for release in April but is currently on hold once again.
