Resident Evil 3 Remake’s knife will be indestructible

March 24, 2020 by Liam Waddington

With the release of Resident Evil 3 Remake just around the corner, Capcom has announced the knife will now be indestructible, unlike the knives in Resident Evil 2 Remake which would break after a certain amount of uses.

In a recent interview with Game Informer, producer Peter Fabiano stated the decision to change the knife breakage system from RE2 Remake was to give players a back-up plan to fall back on if they ran out of bullets.

“We kept the knife inexhaustible [in Resident Evil 3], so you can use it forever,” said Fabiano. “We’re dealing with survival horror and everything is exhaustible. You run out of bullets. You run out of herbs. You run out of all the items you can use. So if you did run out of everything, what would you have? The knife. The director always wanted to make it so that you at least have your trusty knife. That’s always something you can rely on.”

Aside from providing players with a weapon in case they ran out of bullets, fans of the Resident Evil franchise will surely be pleased with this decision as RE3 will bring back the opportunity for the popular knife-only playthrough which has become common within the RE community.
