Dwayne Johnson teases new characters for Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw sequel

April 15, 2020 by Liam Waddington

After the critical and financial success of Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw, it comes as no surprise that a sequel to the Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham-led spinoff is currently in the works.

While we don’t know much about the sequel story-wise, Johnson took to Instagram (via Collider) to tease “a few more surprises” and reveal the follow-up will establish additional characters including “villains, anti-heroes, and heroes.”

“Chris Morgan, of course, will write again, Seven Bucks Productions will produce again,” Johnson said. “We created a lot of great characters, from Vanessa Kirby’s character to Idris Elba, and Eiza Gonzalez. And now in this next instalment, we have a few more surprises and great characters to create. Not characters that Hobbs can just kick the shit out of, because that’s boring, but characters I think that you guys are gonna fall in love with. Villains, anti-heroes, and heroes all across the board.”

Johnson’s comments regarding the villains are interesting as after the fate of Idris Elba’s Brixton was revealed, the film teased a big bad antagonist who the audiences didn’t get to physically see. Therefore, the sequel could explore the character pulling the strings behind the scenes.

Although the sequel isn’t yet dated, Hobbs and Shaw 2 will be written by a returning Chris Morgan with Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham reprising their roles of Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw respectively. It is currently unknown if Vanessa Kirby, Eiza Gonzalez, Helen Mirren, Ryan Reynolds, and Kevin Hart will also be returning.
