Patrick Ness to script Lord of the Flies for Luca Guadagnino

April 27, 2020 by Gary Collinson

Last summer it was revealed that Call Me By Your Name and Suspiria director Luca Guadagnino is set to adapt the classic William Golding novel Lord of the Flies for Warner Bros., and now comes word that the project has found a screenwriter.

As reported by THR, Warner Bros. has tapped Patrick Ness, the author behind the bestselling YA novels A Monster Calls and Chaos Walking, to write the script for the adaptation of the 1954 novel. Ness worked on the script for the movie versions of both A Monster Calls and the long-delayed Chaos Walking, and also created the short-lived Doctor Who spinoff series Class.

Having originally planned a female version of the story of a group of young children who find themselves marooned on a desert island, Warner Bros. shifted gears with the appointment of Guadagnino, who is said to be developing a more faithful take on the source material.

Lord of the Flies has been adapted for the screen on several occasions, most notably with director Peter Brook’s acclaimed 1963 feature film.
