Taika Waititi says Thor: Love and Thunder delay gives them a chance to improve the script

April 30, 2020 by Samuel Brace

Taika Waititi, the director of Thor: Love and Thunder, says the film’s delay gives them a chance to improve the screenplay.

Many will have been disappointed to hear that Thor: Love and Thunder had been delayed by a year, moving from 2021 to 2022, but there is an upside according to the film’s director.

Speaking to Total Film Magazine, Taika Waititi says that it’s never a bad thing to have more time to work on a film and this is especially true when it comes to writing the script:

“We’re still writing Love And Thunder, and I think it’s good to just keep writing, and then you know, we’ll have a really, really good script. And with writing, especially, you should use as much of that time as possible to get your story right, because you never really get it later on. Film is an industry where you’re always complaining about not having enough time. I think, right now, we’ve given ourselves a huge amount of time to work on all sort of things, so we may as well use it.”

Hopefully, Waititi and crew can use this extra time wisely and deliver an MCU entry to remember, perhaps even topping his previous work on Thor: Ragnarok. Here’s hoping!

Thor: Love and Thunder sees Taika Waititi returning to the director’s chair and Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Natalie Portman (Jane Foster), Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie) and Waititi (Korg) all reprising their MCU roles and Christian Bale (Ford v Ferrari) starring as the main villain. It is set for release on February 18th, 2022.
