First update for DOOM Eternal sees the arrival of empowered demons

May 16, 2020 by Andrew Newton

Bethesda Softworks has announced the arrival of the first update for DOOM Eternal.  This brand-new update brings with it Empowered Demons, Event Series 3, single-player campaign updates, Battlemode changes and more.  Watch the new trailer below to see more of this update.

Biggest threat to players with the update is the introduction of Empowered Demons.  When a player is killed in the single player campaign the demon that killed them is beefed up and transported to another players game giving them the opportunity to avenge their fallen brother Slayer.  Manage to succeed in taking it out and earn a wealth of health and ammo and bonus XP to progress in-game events.  If you want Empowered Demons in your life they can be turned on (or off) in the Game Tab of the Main Menu options.

The update sees the arrival of Echelon Leveling.  Those who manage to reach DOOM level 250 will receive their first Echelon level, unlock a special insignia and reset the DOOM level back down to 1. Players can then fight through the echelons with all their gear, gaining new insignias as they go.

Battlemode sees a number of quality of life improvements including:

  • Deaths in Battlemode now display a report to show players what killed them.
  • Prestige stars now appear under the player card to show the most dedicated players.
  • Addressed latency and lag issues.
  • Tutorials now appear for all players when playing the mode for the first time.

Last but not least is the start of Event Series 3, also known as the Precious Metals event.  Players can unlock brand-new weapons skins, player icons, nameplates and player skins just by earning XP.  There’s even the chance to get blinged up gear like the Gold Marauder skin, the Luxury Super Shotgun skin or the MC Pain Elemental Master Collection.  The event will run until 18th June so get earning that XP.

Update 1 is available for DOOM Eternal now.
