Robert Rodriguez and Peyton Reed confirm involvement with The Mandalorian season 2

May 5, 2020 by EJ Moreno

Robert Rodriguez, the man behind cult classics like Alita: Battle Angel, Machete, Sin City and El Mariachi, is venturing into a galaxy far, far away. The filmmaker took to his official Twitter on the final hours of Star Wars Day (May the Fourth) to confirm that he directed at least one episode in The Mandalorian season 2.

“I am truly humbled to say I have now had the very rare privilege of directing the biggest star in the universe,” Rodriguez captioned in a photo of himself alongside Baby Yoda.

Rodriguez is not the only director to confirm he’s directing an episode as Ant-Man director Peyton Reed also shared a photo from his Twitter account. In the picture are the titular character’s iconic helmet and Reed’s director’s chair.

Reports say that the second season of The Mandalorian wrapped production in March and that a social media embargo has ended so the season’s directors can announce their participation, so perhaps we can expect more directors to roll out announcements soon. Showrunner Jon Favreau already confirmed to direct an episode of his series in season 2, and executive producer Dave Filoni (The Clone Wars) is also directing at least one episode.

Make sure to see these directors tackle the adventures of The Mandalorian and Baby Yoda on Disney+ this October for the second season of The Mandalorian.
