Rumour: Obi-Wan Star Wars series reportedly casting young Luke and Leia

July 30, 2020 by Samuel Brace

A new report regarding the Obi-Wan Kenobi show on Disney+ suggests the series is casting for a young Luke and Leia.

Out of all the works in development in the Star Wars universe, none has fans excited quite the way that the Obi-Wan series does for Disney+. Ewan McGregor’s enormous popularity as Kenobi from his work in the prequels has led to great interest in seeing him reprise the role one last time.

The series is currently in development and is set years after the events of Revenge of the Sith but before A New Hope. While we don’t have any concrete story details at this point, a new report from The Illuminerdi points in the direction of a young Luke and Leia being key parts in the story:

“We have learned that the series is solely focused on casting two lead roles. The description is as follows:

“(Girl) Caucasian, 8-11 years old, to portray a precocious girl.
“(Boy) Caucasian, 8-11 years old, to portray a precocious boy.

“Due to the importance being placed on this casting, and that the two child roles are leads, it’s easy to assume that the roles could be a young Luke and Leia.”

The original plan for the show, before some internal changes in the wake of The Mandalorian, was to include Obi-Wan protecting a young Luke. It’s safe to expect some of this story to make it to the final show considering we know that Kenobi spent years on Tatooine watching over Luke at this time.

With the series reportedly set 8 years after Episode III, the fact that the show is casting for an eight-year-old boy and girl certainly matches up. But how Leia would fit into the story considering her location on Alderaan is anyone’s guess.
