Although Tobin Bell has had a long career as an actor, he’s perhaps best known amongst horror fans as John Kramer a.k.a. Jigsaw in the Saw franchise. While Bell’s future as the character is currently unclear, he has offered his support on another actor taking on the role in future instalments.
In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Bell shared his hopes for Jigsaw’s future but endorses another actor on taking the iconic horror villain role if the character was the return to the franchise.
“John Kramer is a King Lear-like character,” Bell said. “He’s huge, his world is very large. If the writing is amazing, he’s a character that any actor would be thrilled to have an opportunity to occupy.”
If John Kramer was to return it would most likely have to be in a prequel or reboot as Tobin Bell’s iteration of the character was killed off in Saw III with the fourth film opening with the autopsy of his body which later opened the door for his apprentices to continue his work in future instalments.
Despite being killed off in the earlier films, Bell reprised the role in every single movie in the Saw franchise following Saw III – which usually consisted of flashback sequences that revealed more of his backstory and his initial interactions with each apprentice. It is unclear whether he will make an appearance in the upcoming spinoff/reimagining, Spiral: From the Book of Saw.

Spiral: From the Book of Saw stars Chris Rock, Samuel L. Jackson, Max Minghella, and Marisol Nichols, with Darren Lynn Bousman returning to the world of Jigsaw for the ninth installment having previously directed Saw II, Saw III, and Saw IV. It is set for release on May 21st, 2021.
