Michael Shannon and director Jonathan Levine join Hulu’s Nine Perfect Strangers

August 3, 2020 by Gary Collinson

The cast of Hulu’s Liane Moriarty adaptation Nine Perfect Strangers continues to take shape, with The Shape of Water and Knives Out’s Michael Shannon becoming the latest addition to the limited series.

Shannon is set to portray the character of Napoleon, one of the titular strangers, and joins a cast that includes Nicole Kidman (Big Little Lies), Melissa McCarthy (The Kitchen), Luke Evans (Beauty and the Beast), Samara Weaving (Ready or Not), Tiffany Boone (Hunters), Manny Jacinto (The Good Place), Melvin Gregg (The Way Back) and Grace Van Patten (Good Posture).

Along with Shannon, it has also been revealed that Jonathan Levine (50/50, Warm Bodies) has signed on to direct all eight episodes of the limited series, as well as joining the executive producing team alongside Kidman, Moriarty and Big Little Lies’ Bruna Papandrea and showrunner David E. Kelley.

Nine Perfect Strangers takes place in “a boutique health-and-wellness resort that promises healing and transformation as nine stressed city dwellers try to get on a path to a better way of living. Watching over them during this ten-day retreat is the resort’s director Masha (Kidman), a woman on a mission to reinvigorate their tired minds and bodies. However, these nine ‘perfect’ strangers have no idea what is about to hit them.”
