Marvel’s WandaVision trailer smashes viewing records

September 25, 2020 by Amie Cranswick

It’s been a rough week for Marvel fans, what with the news that both  Black Widow and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier have been pushed to 2021 as a result of the global health crisis.

On the bright side, however, we do have one entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to look forward to this year in the Disney+ series WandaVision, and based on viewing figures for the first trailer, it looks like the Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany-led series is going to be a smash hit for the Mouse House’s streaming platform.

As reported by Deadline, the trailer for WandaVision attracted over 55 million views in the first 24 hours following its debut, the most ever for a TV series from a streaming service, and which social media monitoring agency RelishMix describes as “in a league with Avengers and Fast & Furious franchises following a Super Bowl drop in a day.”

For comparison, the Avengers: Infinity War Super Bowl TV spot was viewed 30.9 million times in 24 hours, while this year’s Black Widow Super Bowl spot this year pulled in 18.7 million views in 24 hours.

Marvel Studios’ captivating new series WandaVision stars Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany, and marks the first series from Marvel Studios streaming exclusively on Disney+. The series is a blend of classic television and the Marvel Cinematic Universe in which Wanda Maximoff and Vision—two super-powered beings living idealized suburban lives—begin to suspect that everything is not as it seems.

WandaVision is set to premiere in December 2020 and features a cast that includes Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Paul Bettany (Vision), Kat Dennings (Darcy Lewis), Randall Park (Agent Jimmy Woo),  Teyonah Parris (Empire) as an adult Monica Rambeau, and Kathryn Hahn (Bad Moms) as a “nosy neighbour.”
