Patty Jenkins comments on Wonder Woman 1984’s latest delay

September 15, 2020 by Amie Cranswick

With Christopher Nolan’s Tenet failing to reignite the North American box office, Warner Bros. made the decision last week to push back the release of Wonder Woman 1984 once more, with the its DC Extended Universe sequel now set to open in the States on Christmas Day.

Following the news, director Patty Jenkins spoke to Variety about the latest delay, as well as thanking fans for their patience:

“First and foremost let me say how much Gal and I love all our devoted Wonder Woman fans around the world, and your excitement for WW84 couldn’t make us happier or more eager for you to see the movie,” said Jenkins. “Because I know how important it is to bring this movie to you on a big screen when all of us can share the experience together, I’m hopeful you won’t mind waiting just a little bit longer. With the new date on Christmas Day, we can’t wait to spend the holidays with you!”

Wonder Woman 1984 was originally scheduled for release in December 2019, and will now open a little over a year later than initially planned… assuming of course that things have settled down by that point and there are no further delays.

Wonder Woman 1984 reunites Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins with stars Gal Gadot (Diana Prince), Chris Pine (Steve Trevor), Ewen Bremner (Charlie), Said Taghmaoui (Sameer), Connie Nielsen (Queen Hippolyta), Robin Wright (General Antiope), Lisa Loven Kongsli (Menalippe), Doutzen Kroes (Venelia) and new additions Kristen Wiig (Ghostbusters) as Barbara Ann Minerva/Cheetah, Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones) as Maxwell Lord, and Natasha Rothwell (Love, Simon), Ravi Patel (Master of None) and Gabriella Wilde (Doctor Who) in as-yet-unrevealed roles.
