The Suicide Squad spin-off doesn’t mean Peacemaker survives says James Gunn

September 25, 2020 by Samuel Brace

James Gunn, director of The Suicide Squad, says that the Peacemaker spin-off TV seroiesdoesn’t mean that the character survives the events of the film.

We have recently learned that James Gunn’s work with DC won’t end up with The Suicide Squad as a character from the film will be receiving his own spin-off show on HBO Max.

John Cena’s Peacemaker will be the focus of the series but director James Gunn was quick to point out that just because this spin-off exists, doesn’t mean that Peacemaker will survive The Sucide Squad.

Responding to a fan on Twitter, Gunn said: “We’re holding off announcing the timeline of the #Peacemaker TV show until after #TheSuicideSquad movie.”

When a fan then said that the show’s description actually alludes to it being a prequel anyway, Gunn then responded: “‘Exploring the origins’ does not necessarily mean prequel.”

So, there seem to be numerous options available to the series; it could involve flashbacks, be a regular prequel, or perhaps something far stranger. We will have to wait and see. All will become clear after The Suicide Squad arrives next August.

The Suicide Squad sees James Gunn directing a cast that includes Suicide Squad returnees Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag) and Viola Davis (Amanda Waller) as well as new DCEU additions Idris Elba, Peter Capaldi, Alice Braga, Nathan Fillion, Taika Waititi, Jennifer Holland, David Dastmalchian, Joaquín Cosío, Mayling Ng, Flula Borg, Juan Diego Botto, Storm Reid, John Cena, Pete Davidson, Tinashe Kajese, Daniela Melchior, Julio Ruiz, Steve Agee, Michael Rooker, and Sean Gunn.
