Zac Efron set for Stephen King adaptation Firestarter

September 30, 2020 by Gary Collinson

Having brought in a new director back in December in Keith Thomas (The Vigil), Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions long-gestating Stephen King adaptation Firestarter has added its first cast member in Zac Efron (Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, The Greatest Showman).

Published in 1980, Firestarter tells the story of a young girl develops pyrokinetic abilities who is abducted by a secret government agency that wants to harness her powerful gift as a weapon.

While the official announcement doesn’t confirm Efron’s role, he’ll presumably be playing Andy McGee, the father of young Charlie McGee. Father and daughter were played by David Keith and Drew Barrymore respectively in the 1984 film adaptation from director Mark L. Lester.
