David Fincher’s Mank will hit Netflix in December

October 8, 2020 by Ricky Church

Fans of director David Fincher will soon see his long-awaited Mank as Collider reports that the streaming service has set a December premiere date for the new film.

Mank will be released in select theaters sometime in November before premiering on Netflix on December 4th. The film is Fincher’s first project in six years after his 2014 hit Gone Girl and has been a passionate and personal project for the filmmaker. The script was originally written by Fincher’s father, Jack Fincher, and the younger Fincher has been trying to shoot it for over 20 years.

The film follows Gary Oldman as legendary screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz, the writer for the groundbreaking film Citizen Kane, often called the greatest film in cinema history. The story centres on the behind-the-scenes struggles Mankiewucz faced during the film’s production, particularly with star and director Orson Welles.

1930s Hollywood is re-evaluated through the eyes of scathing social critic and alcoholic screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz as he races to finish the screenplay of Citizen Kane for Orson Welles.

Mank features a cast that includes Gary Oldman (Darkest Hour), Amanda Seyfried (Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again!), Lily Collins (Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile), Charles Dance (Game of Thrones), Tuppence Middleton (Downton Abbey), Arliss Howard (The Lost World: Jurassic Park), Ferdinand Kingsley (Victoria), Jamie McShane (Bloodline), Joseph Cross (Big Little Lies), Sam Troughton (Chernobyl), Toby Leonard Moore (Billions) , Tom Burke (C.B. Strike) and Tom Pelphrey (Marvel’s Iron Fist).
