Jessica Henwick details an idea for a John Wick spinoff she pitched to Keanu Reeves while shooting The Matrix 4

October 19, 2020 by Liam Waddington

Although Jessica Henwick is currently filming The Matrix 4, it seems like she is spending some of her time pitching ideas for the expansion of the John Wick franchise to co-star Keanu Reeves.

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Henwick revealed she has pitched an idea for Jess Wick to Reeves which would see her in the lead role and she also plans on speaking to John Wick director Chad Stahelski – who is returning to help out on certain action sequences on The Matrix 4– when he returns to the set.

“So I pitch Jess Wick to Keanu all the time. I’m probably driving him crazy,” Henwick said. “I was like, ‘Okay, Keanu, listen to me. Boom. John Wick 4, last 5 minutes, credits roll, post-credit sequence. Boom! You see my face, Jess Wick.’ I just started acting it out and then he started acting it out, too. We put on this little ten-minute show of what Jess Wick and John Wick would be like. Chad Stahelski, the director of all the John Wick movies, is flying out in two weeks, I think. So I’m going to go straight up to him and I’m going to say it.”

Whether or not Keanu Reeves and Chad Stahelski capitalise on this idea remains to be seen, but we do know several projects are currently in the works in relation to the John Wick franchise including John Wick: Chapter 4, Chapter 5, a spin-off movie titled Ballerina, and a prequel television spin-off titled The Continental.

The Matrix 4 is being directed by Lana Wachowski from a script by Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchell. The cast features returning Matrix cast members Keanu Reeves (Neo), Carrie-Anne Moss (Trinity), Jada Pinkett Smith (Niobe) and Daniel Bernhardt (Agent Johnson) alongside Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Watchmen), Jessica Henwick (Iron Fist), Neil Patrick Harris (A Series of Unfortunate Events), Jonathan Groff (Frozen II), Priyanka Chopra (Baywatch), Ellen Hollman (Spartacus) and Andrew Caldwell (iZombie), as well as Sense8 stars Erendira Ibarra, Toby Onwumere, Max Riemelt and Brian J. Smith.
