Dakota Johnson, Jason Segel and Casey Affleck star in trailer for dramedy Our Friend

November 26, 2020 by Ricky Church

Universal Pictures has released a trailer for the dramedy Our Friend which stars Casey Affleck (The Old Man & The Gun), Dakota Johnson (Suspiria) and Jason Segel (How I Met Your Mother).

Directed by Gabriela Cowperthwaite (Megan Leavey) with the script written by Brad Ingelsby (The Way Back), the film is based on a true story that sees Affleck and Johnson as a married couple with Johnson’s Nicole facing a terminal case of cancer. Their friend, played by Segel, moves in with them to help out and changes all their lives in ways they could not have predicted. The full synopsis reads:

Based on Matt Teague’s award-winning 2015 Esquire article titled “The Friend: Love Is Not a Big Enough Word,” Our Friend tells the inspiring and extraordinary true story of the Teague family—journalist Matt, his vibrant wife Nicole and their two young daughters—and how their lives are upended by Nicole’s heartbreaking diagnosis of terminal cancer. As Matt’s responsibilities as caretaker and parent become increasingly overwhelming, the couple’s best friend Dane Faucheux offers to come and help out. As Dane puts his life on hold to stay with his friends, the impact of this life altering decision proves greater and more profound than anyone could have imagined.

Also starring in the film are Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones), Cherry Jones (The Handmaid’s Tale, Succession), Jake Owen, Denee Benton, Isabella Rice, and Ahna O’Reilly.

Our Friend will be released on January 22nd 2021 and also stars Gwendoline Christie, Cherry Jones , Jake Owen, Denee Benton, Isabella Rice, and Ahna O’Reilly.
