Netflix renews The Umbrella Academy for season 3

November 11, 2020 by EJ Moreno

The Umbrella Academy is returning for another season at Netflix. The superhero series, created for Netflix by Steve Blackman and developed by Jeremy Slater, took to their social media accounts to confirm the news.

Oh my god! We're back! Again! It's official. Production for S3 of The Umbrella Academy begins in February pic.twitter.com/tZxyezzCOc

Production is expected to start in February next year, suggesting a release either late 2021 or early 2022. This renewal came a bit later than expected, as it’s been more than three months since the superhero series debuted its ten-episode second season.

During the show’s second season, the family was primarily stuck in 1963 as they came together to stop a second apocalypse from happening. The season’s finale saw the characters back in the present and having successfully averted both apocalypses from happening. Still, as anyone who loves time-travel movies will tell you, this led to some major timeline changes.

Series leads Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, David Castaneda, Aidan Gallagher, and Colm Feore are all expected to return for season three.
