Selena Gomez set for In the Shadow of the Mountain

November 15, 2020 by Gary Collinson

THR is reporting that Selena Gomez is set to portray Peruvian mountaineer and social entrepreneur Silvia Vásquez-Lavado in a biopic entitled In the Shadow of the Mountain, which is being produced by Scott Budnick (Just Mercy) and Donna Gigliotti (Shakespeare in Love).

Mayans M.C. co-creator Elgin James is set to write and direct the film, which is based upon an upcoming memoir from Vásquez-Lavado, a victim of childhood abuse and neglect who became the first Peruvian woman to climb Mount Everest, and the first openly gay woman to complete the Seven Summits challenge.

“Silvia is a force of nature. Scott and I are so excited to work with Elgin and Selena to tell this story of resilience, courage, adventure and humanity,” said Gigliotti, with Budnick adding “We are thrilled to get to work bringing Silvia’s incredible and inspiring story to life onscreen.”
