Emma Stone exits Damien Chazelle’s Babylon, Margot Robbie in early talks to join

December 2, 2020 by EJ Moreno

Babylon, the upcoming film from La La Land’s Damien Chazelle, is having to switch up its lead actress as Deadline has revealed that Emma Stone will exit the film due to scheduling reasons. However, her replacement will likely make many moviegoers very delighted.

Margot Robbie is in early talks to join the film, which would reunite her with her Once Upon A Time In Hollywood co-star Brad Pitt. Deadline reports that Paramount Pictures and Chazelle are in early discussions with Robbie, hoping to lock her down to play Babylon’s lead female role.

The film is described as an R-rated period drama and is set during the defining era in Hollywood when the industry turned from silent film to talkies. Babylon was shopped around shortly around another classic cinema-set film Mank was greenlit by Netflix. Brad Pitt is already signed on for the project, and this marks his first time teaming with Chazelle.

Paramount acquired the rights to the film in 2019 and is targeting a Christmas Day 2021 release to put the film into awards contention.
