This week we received the news that David Prowse has passed away. The actor was responsible for Darth Vader’s physical performance in the original Star Wars trilogy.

Numerous statements from those who knew him have been made public, including Star Wars alum like Mark Hamill and creator George Lucas.

Hamill shared: “So sad to hear David Prowse has passed. He was a kind man & much more than Darth Vader. Actor-Husband-Father-Member of the Order of the British Empire-3 time British Weightlifting Champion & Safety Icon the Green Cross Code Man. He loved his fans as much as they loved him.”

Prowse’s will be long-remembered thanks to his imposing performance as Vader. While the actor wasn’t responsible for Vader’s iconic voice, his physical presence was a huge part of what made the character work.
