Censor Never Reaches Its Full Horror Potential | Sundance 2021 Video Review

January 30, 2021 by EJ Moreno

Censor, 2021.

Directed by Prano Bailey-Bond.
Starring Niamh Algar, Nicholas Burns, Vincent Franklin, Sophia La Porta, Adrian Schiller, Michael Smiley, Clare Holman, Andrew Havill, Felicity Montagu, Danny Lee Wynter, Clare Perkins, Guillaume Delaunay, Richard Glover, Beau Gadsdon, Amelie Child-Villiers.

You may call me a bit sick for this, but I expected more “nasty” out of this video nasty-era throwback. Sundance kicks off its Midnight Movie selections with Censor, a U.K. horror film that takes viewers back to the 80s when film censors fought hard to protect the public from the rising gory horror films. Censor Enid stumbles upon a mysterious movie that changes her life and sends her down a dark path… sadly the path wasn’t dark enough for our host EJ Moreno.

After viewing a strangely familiar video nasty, Enid, a film censor, sets out to solve the past mystery of her sister’s disappearance, embarking on a quest that dissolves the line between fiction and reality.
