Samara Weaving joins Eugenio Derbez in The Valet

March 28, 2021 by Gary Collinson

Ready or Not star Samara Weaving has signed on to star alongside Eugenio Derbez (Overboard) in The Valet, an English-language remake of the French comedy which Derbez is producing for Lionsgate.

The film will see Weaving as “a movie star who enlists a parking valet named Antonio (Derbez) to pose as her lover to cover for a relationship with a married man. As a Latinx valet, the hard-working Antonio usually moves through the world anonymously, but through the ruse, he comes to be seen as the worthy person he always has been.”

“Samara is the perfect choice to play the kind of person who never moves through the world unseen — or so it would seem, because it turns out her character has all kinds of secrets that she never shows the world,” said Lionsgate’s president of production Erin Westerman. “She’ll be a perfect contrast for Eugenio’s character, the kind of person who all too often is ignored.”

Richard Wong (Come As You Are) is set to direct The Valet from a script by Overboard writers Rob Greenberg and Bob Fisher.

Australian actress Weaving was last seen in the mystery thriller Last Moment of Clarity, and has recently added two new projects Down the Rabbit Hole and Liz to a slate that includes Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins and Hulu’s Nine Perfect Strangers.
