With its extended tenth season now underway, AMC has announced that the eleventh and final season of its flagship series The Walking Dead is set to get underway this summer.

While specific details on the final season are being kept under wraps, it has been announced that Michael James Shaw, the actor who portrayed Corvus Glaive in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, has joined the cast for this last run of episodes. Shaw is set to portray Mercer, a character who debuted in the comic book in issue #177 and a former Marine who now serves as the head of the Commonwealth Military.

Filming is currently underway on the eleventh season of The Walking Dead, and while it will bring the main show to its conclusion, AMC still has big plans for the franchise. Fear the Walking Dead continues, with a second and final season of The Walking Dead: World Beyond still to come, along with the Rick Grimes movie(s), a new Daryl & Carol spinoff series and episodic anthology show entitled Tales of the Walking Dead. It was also revealed last year by AMC’s Walking Dead supremo Scott Gimple that an animated series is also under consideration.
