Why Is Chaos Walking Such A Mess!? | Video Review

March 4, 2021 by EJ Moreno

EJ Moreno reviews the latest film from director Doug Liman, Chaos Walking…

Back in 2017, when Chaos Walking was first filmed, you surely could see this film having a bright future. Even after finishing the film, the potential for this to be a massive hit is there. But the lackluster script, the delays in the production’s reshoots, and an uneven tone hinder this new Doug Liman film from hitting another level.

Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley star in this sci-fi action film that doesn’t kick it into the next gear to engage its viewers. Join our host EJ Moreno as he breaks down what doesn’t work in Chaos Walking and why it feels like a well-polished mess.

In the not too distant future, Todd Hewitt (Tom Holland) discovers Viola (Daisy Ridley), a mysterious girl who crash lands on his planet, where all the women have disappeared, and the men are afflicted by “the Noise” – a force that puts all their thoughts on display. In this dangerous landscape, Viola’s life is threatened – and as Todd vows to protect her, he will have to discover his own inner power and unlock the planet’s dark secrets.

Featuring in the cast of Chaos Walking alongside Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley are Mads Mikkelsen (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), Demian Bichir (The Hateful Eight), Kurt Sutter (Sons of Anarchy), Cynthia Erivo (Widows), David Oyelowo (Selma), Nick Jonas (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle), and Manchee the dog.
