Dan Stevens replaces Armie Hammer in Gaslit

April 5, 2021 by Gary Collinson

Legion and Beauty and the Beast star Dan Stevens has signed on to appear in the cast of Starz’s Watergate scandal series Gaslit, Variety has revealed.

Stevens is replacing Armie Hammer, who was originally cast in the role of John Dean, a young hotshot White House Counsel who finds himself torn between his ambition and his struggle over whether he can lie to protect the President. Hammer – who is currently under police investigation due to allegations of rape and sexual assault – was dropped from the project when it was picked up to series.

Based on the award-winning Slow Burn podcast, Gaslit reunites Homecoming executive producer Sam Esmail and star Julia Roberts, who is portraying Martha Mitchell, wife to Sean Penn’s Attorney General John Mitchell. Captain Fantastic helmer Matt Ross is directing.

Stevens’ recent credits include the Netflix comedy Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga and Dave Franco’s horror-thriller The Rental, and he most recently starred in the romantic sci-fi I Am Your Man.
