April 11, 2021 by Gary Collinson

It’s been close to seven years since Dwayne Johnson was first cast in the role of the DC Comics villain / antihero Black Adam, and after numerous delays, The Rock has taken to Instagram to announce that cameras are finally rolling on the comic book movie.

As Johnson notes, the film is being directed by The Shallows helmer Jaume Collet-Serra, who recently worked with the star on Disney’s Jungle Cruise,  and sees Johnson taking on the role of Teth-Adam, a.k.a. Black Adam – an antihero who possesses the same powers as his future arch-enemy Shazam (Zachary Levi).

Joining Johnson in the cast of Black Adam are Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone, Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate, Sarah Shahi as Adrianna Tomaz and Marwan Kenzari, James Cusati-Moyer, and Bodhi Sabongui in as-yet-unrevealed roles.

Black Adam is set for release on July 29th 2022.
