Injustice animated movie is in the works at DC and Warner Bros.

May 20, 2021 by Liam Waddington

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment (via Collider) has revealed that a feature-length animated movie based on the popular Injustice storyline is in the works at DC.

The plot of Injustice follows the Joker tricking Superman into killing Lois Lane and accidentally destroying Metropolis with a nuclear bomb. After that, Superman becomes a tyrant with Batman later becoming the leader of the resistance in an effort to end Superman’s regime.

Injustice served as a major inspiration for the Knightmare sequences in both Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Zack Snyder’s Justice League with Lois’ death at the hands of Darkseid which leaves Superman susceptible to the Anti-Life Equation. However, it seems like the SnyderVerse won’t be continuing following the release of his cut of Justice League.

It is currently unclear whether the animated movie will adapt the story of the popular video game series from director Ed Boon and NetherRealm Studios or the popular prequel comic series by Tom Taylor. Since NetherRealm released Mortal Kombat 11 back in 2019, there has also been plenty of speculation that the studio will shift development onto a third instalment in the Injustice fighting game series, however, this is unconfirmed as of writing this.
