Matt Damon is a man on a mission in the first trailer for Spotlight director Tom McCarthy’s Stillwater. The Focus Features movie is the first drama from McCarthy since his Oscar winning tale of investigative journalism, and tells the story of a father (Damon) who travels to France in order to exonerate his daughter (Abigail Breslin) for a crime she didn’t commit. A dramatic thriller directed by Academy Award winner Tom McCarthy and starring Matt Damon, Stillwater follows an American oil-rig roughneck from Oklahoma who travels to Marseille to visit his estranged daughter, in prison for a murder she claims she did not commit. Confronted with language barriers, cultural differences, and a complicated legal system, Bill builds a new life for himself in France as he makes it his personal mission to exonerate his daughter.
Stillwater hits cinemas in the US on July 30th, 2021 and in the UK on August 6th.
