Michel Hazanavicius directing French remake of cult Japanese zombie comedy One Cut of the Dead

May 7, 2021 by Gary Collinson

As reported by Screen Daily (via Bloody Disgusting), Oscar-winning filmmaker Michel Hazanavicius (The Artist) has kicked off production on a French remake of the cult 2017 Japanese zombie horror-comedy One Cut of the Dead.

As with the original, the remake – titled Final Cut internationally and Comme Z in France – will follow the cast and crew of a micro-budget zombie film who find themselves in the middle of an actual zombie apocalypse. Here’s the synopsis:

Set against the backdrop of a B-movie shoot that is descending into disaster, Duris plays the director who seems to be the only one invested with the necessary energy to keep the low-budget zombie film afloat. As he tries to work with jaded technicians and uninterested actors, shooting is disturbed by the arrival of authentic undead.”
