John Boyega exits Netflix’s Rebel Ridge mid-shoot due to family reasons

June 4, 2021 by Gary Collinson

Having been in production for a month, Attack the Block and Star Wars star John Boyega has exited Netflix’s Rebel Ridge mid-shoot, with Netflix citing “family reasons” as behind his abrupt departure.

“Rebel Ridge is pausing temporarily as we look to re-cast John Boyega who needed to leave the project for family reasons,” a Netflix representative told Deadline. “We remain committed to Jeremy Saulnier’s extraordinary film and look forward to resuming production. We look forward to continuing our partnership with John Boyega’s UpperRoom Productions, in addition to our upcoming film They Cloned Tyrone in which he also stars.”

The film, directed by Jeremy Saulnier (Blue Ruin, Green Room) is described as exploring “systemic inequality in America in the context of action, suspense and dark humor.” Featuring in the cast of the film are Don Johnson, James Badge Dale, James Cromwell, AnnaSophia Robb, Emory Cohen, Erin Doherty, Zsane Jhe and Al Vicente.
