Michaela Coel joins Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

July 22, 2021 by EJ Moreno

Could a Storm be approaching Wakanda? Fans are hoping so as Michaela Coel is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Coel, known for her hit series I May Destroy You, is joining Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Variety broke the story but didn’t offer up any details on who she’ll play. The moment the news hit, there were calls for Coel as the weather-controlling mutant known as Ororo Munroe, aka Storm.

Coel is fresh off multiple Emmy nominations for I May Destroy You, in which she serves as writer, director, producer, and star. While she briefly appeared in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, this will mark her biggest film role to date.

Production of the Black Panther sequel, Wakanda Forever, began last month in Atlanta’s Pinewood Studios.

While plot details are currently being kept under wraps, Danai Gurira, Letitia Wright, Daniel Kaluuya, Winston Duke, Lupita Nyong’o, Florence Kasumba, and Angela Bassett are all expected to reprise their respective roles from the original film. Director Ryan Coogler is returning to helm the sequel from his screenplay.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is currently scheduled for release on July 8th, 2022.
