Snowpiercer renewed for fourth season at TNT

July 30, 2021 by Ricky Church

Even as the third season is wrapping production, TNT has given an early fourth season renewal to Snowpiercer. The series stars Daveed Diggs, Jennifer Connelly, Alison Wright and Sean Bean. You can watch the Diggs and other members of the cast make the announcement in a video below…

Snowpiercer is based on the 2013 film from Parasite director Bong Joon-ho as well as the French graphic novel series Le Transperceneige. The series takes place in a post-apocalypse future after the planet has been devastated and what is left of humanity is placed on a large train that never stops travelling around the world. It ultimately leads to class warfare and revolution as people further up the train are treated better than those toward the back.

The second season of Snowpiercer ended with “Layton (Diggs) taking command of a 10-car, breakaway “pirate train” and setting off to search for Melanie (Connelly). Season three will pick up shortly after that and also continue to follow Wilford (Bean) as he tries to consolidate control over the Snowpiercer.”

“Snowpiercer has been an incredibly successful series for us that continues to capture the imagination of viewers, grow audience and maintain strong ratings,” said Sam Linsky and Adrienne O’Riain, co-heads of scripted original programming for TBS, TNT and TruTV. “All of our seasons embark on an emotional, unexpected ride and the well-plotted storylines will continue to evolve and remain relevant to audiences. We’re excited to keep the train running into season four.”

Graeme Manson (Orphan Black) serves as showrunner. He is also an executive producer alongside Aubrey Nealon, Tomorrow Studios’ Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements, Matthew O’Connor, Ben Rosenblatt and Scott Derrickson. Also executive producing are the Snowpiercer film’s Bong, Miky Lee, Jinnie Choi and Park Chan-wook.
